Mixed Media Workshops

General Workshop Information

She often develops classes and workshops for particular groups and organizations, working with representatives of the group to tailor events to meet the needs and interests of the participants. Meta's workshops are known for their rich, broad range of elements, support and encouragement of creative thinking, and individual learning and enjoyment in a climate of inclusion and safety. Workshops are developed to provide participants with new skills and techniques, or to focus on personal exploration and growth.

MIXED MEDIA EXPLORATIONS

Play and experiment with a variety of mixed media techniques. Explore supports, surfaces and embellishments, try out some materials, gather new ideas, get inspired by one another. Projects may be funky, fun, funny, formal, foolish or all of the above.

WHEN THE MUSE IS SILENT

Artists sometimes find themselves stuck. Investigate processes and strategies to reconnect with the muse, find a different creative path, and break out of the muddy rut of stagnation.

ART DOLLS

Individually-designed workshops to focus on various aspects of doll-making may include techniques for creating bodies, faces, clothing and artifacts. The Spirit Doll workshop encourages participants to find within themselves the inspiration for personal expression in the form of an Art Doll. Character Dolls explores techniques for developing specific characters and their clothing and artifacts.

COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

The perfect beginning for a long-term group art project, participants develop the first step of a project, and discuss procedures and systems for maintaining focus and dedication throughout the life of the project.

ART JOURNALS AND SKETCHBOOKS

Strategies to step beyond "blank page fear" and begin playing in a personal art journal or sketchbook are presented. Participants are encouraged to explore art journal and sketchbook alternatives, and to consider the many purposes and rewards of this on-going activity.

CALLIGRAPHY

In either a one-time workshop to provide the first steps to learn calligraphy basics, or in an on-going class to learn various alphabets, letterforms and techniques, participants discover that mastery of a few "rules" will lead to beautiful, creative lettering.

MIXED MEDIA HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS

At any time of year, participants use a wide variety of materials and processes to design and make interesting, fun, beautiful and unique holiday ornaments. The personal products resulting from this enjoyable workshop make ideal gifts.

USE ART TO TEACH ANYTHING

Teachers in fields other than visual art really can be "art teachers." Learning in almost any discipline or area of study can be enhanced by designing activities that provide unusual ways for students to connect with concepts and facts. Strategies and ideas for developing simple, dynamic activities are explored.
